Archaeological sites

The first archaeological excavation has been organized in 1956 on the site of Grotnica in Guča. So far, more than 140 sites were excavated, dated to the Praehistory, Antiquity, Early Byzantium, Middle Ages and Turkish period. The National Museum in Čačak participated as well to the rescue excavations organized by the Institute for Cultural Heritage Preservation in Kraljevo and Kragujevac, as to the projects organized by national institutions: Institute of Archaeology, Faculty of Philosophy and Institute of History, all from Belgrade.
